Never miss another shot.

You shouldn’t have to leave your camera behind to save weight, stuff it away in the rain because your clip doesn’t protect it, or miss a shot while pulling your camera from your backpack. I build ultralight camera bags that are waterproof, quick to access, and made to fit your gear.

The solution

I build bags that make capturing moments easy.

Quick access

Unroll the lid and let the magnets snap into place. Lift it up to reach your camera. Ready in seconds – no zipper to fight.

Ultralight

The Ranger starts from 57 g. Lighter than popular camera clips – and that includes padding.

Waterproof

All seams fully taped. No zippers. Close the rolltop and it bulges like a balloon. What keeps air in, keeps water out.

Custom build

Every bag is made to order. Pick a standard bag or configure your own – pick custom colors, sizes and more.

The maker

Hi, I'm Jacob.

I live in Hamburg, Germany, and I'm the sole person running Leichtmut. I design these bags, build every single one by hand, take the pictures and write all the words on this site.

It started in 2018 with astrophotography in the Lake District, England. I felt the weight of my gear on every step up the fells, and so I got into ultralight backpacking. But I quickly reached a wall: there was no way to carry a camera that was accessible, protected from rain, and didn’t add unnecessary weight. Camera clips didn’t protect, conventional bags were too heavy, and the few ultralight bags couldn’t fit a second lens.

In 2020, I sat down at my mom’s sewing machine to sew my first camera bag prototype – just as a hobby, for myself. After a rainstorm on the Fishermen’s Trail in Portugal left my camera wet through a zipper seam, I sat down again and built the first version with a rolltop – no zippers and fully taped. It worked great! The quick access magnetic lid came next. I decided: I can’t be the only one who needs a solution like this. I launched Leichtmut in late 2024, and here we are today!

Every bag is still made by me, to order, built to fit your camera.

Leicht means light, as in lightweight. Mut means courage, from my surname, Muth. Together it’s the courage to go lightweight. And read aloud in English, it turns into light and mood, which is what outdoor photography really is about.

Behind your bag

I make each one to fit and protect your camera.

Jacob cutting and patterning a bag in the workshop Step 1

I size the pattern to your gear.

You measure your camera and pick either a standard size or custom size. I draft an individual camera bag pattern for you, making sure it comfortably fits your camera. I do not pull your bag from a shelf. I build each bag to order.

Jacob seam-taping the waterproof shell Step 2

I build three levels of waterproofing.

I sew and seam-tape the waterproof outer shell, glue a closed-cell padding box, and tape my waterproof liner. I don't sew through all three, so I avoid stitch holes that would leak water. I don't care about speed. I build to protect your camera.

A finished Leichtmut bag after final assembly Step 3

I put everything together.

I place the liner inside the padding, the padding inside the shell, then tape it all together. My construction withstands the rain. And you won't find that construction anywhere else.

Fabrics

Waterproof lightweight laminates of your choice, like Ultra 100X / 200X (premium), X-Pac RX30 (colors) and EPLX400 (standard).

Foam

High-quality protective Evazote EV50. Also used for sleeping pads.

Liner

Fully waterproof Dyneema Composite Fabric. You might know this from ultralight tents.

In the field

Built. Taken outside. Reported back.

Questions

What people ask before ordering.

How waterproof is it?

The rolltop closure seals with three rolls. All seams are fully taped. I tape the liner directly to the inside of the shell – no stitch holes through all three layers, no zipper leak points. When you close the rolltop, the bag bulges, trapping air like a balloon. What keeps air in, keeps water out.

Will it fit my specific camera?

Yes. If your camera doesn't fit a standard size, I build a custom one for you. Send your camera measurements and I'll draft a pattern to fit. If you're unsure about measuring, write to me.

How much does it actually weigh?

The Scout starts at 29 g, the Ranger at 57 g, the Roamer at 174 g, the Slinger at 144 g. That’s lighter than popular camera clips – and that includes padding.

How long does it take to get one?

My lead time is two weeks, but I'm usually faster. If you need your bag for an upcoming trip, let me know and I'll build it sooner.

Can I attach it to my existing backpack?

Yes. Every bag has two rows of cord loops for attachment points, and two carabiners are included. Clip it to shoulder straps, mount it on a hip belt, wear it as a sling, or build your own solution. Compatible with any backpack.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I do. Prices include 19% German VAT, but international orders are VAT-exempt. See final prices at checkout. Import VAT or tariffs may be due on arrival. EU orders are charged at the destination VAT rate.

Lead time
