What size is right for me?

Size large and small will fit cameras up to the specified dimensions. If your camera is any larger, I recommend a custom size. Still unsure? Send me a message with your camera dimensions and I will help you out!

What fabric do you recommend?

My personal favorites are the Ultra fabrics. They are incredibly strong for their weight, which means they are really tear- and abrasion-resistant. If you're looking for the lightest possible camera bag, go for Ultra 100 X. If you are going into the mountains, pick Ultra 200 X. If you'd rather have some more color in your gear, EPLX and RX30 are your better choice. While these are not as strong, they are also specifically made for the outdoors and a sound choice.

How much padding should I choose?

If you're looking for the lightest possible camera bag, pick 4 mm. This is enough to protect from small bumps and scratches while out and about. 8 mm offers additional protection and I highly recommend it for larger cameras or mountain adventures. It also provides more rigidity, which makes handling a little easier.

How waterproof is it, really?

When you roll the rolltop closed, the bag bulges like a balloon because it traps the air inside – and I like to think what keeps air in, keeps water out. I achieve this with three waterproof layers (shell, foam and liner), minimizing seams, and taping all remaining seams sealed. But I build by hand and some taped seams may trap tiny air bubbles that let one or two drops through under pressure. These bags definitely handle rain, but they are not designed for submersion.

Why a rolltop instead of a zipper?

A rolltop is better at waterproofing your bag and my quick access magnetic lid allows faster access to your camera. Even if the zipper is water-resistant, the zipper seam cannot be taped like my fabrics and water will seep through. Zippers tend to be the items on outdoor gear that require repairs the most.

Do you offer repairs?

Yes. Send it back and I'll fix it. I stand by my work and will fix any construction failures for free. For small issues that are easy to fix with a bit of repair tape, I'll happily guide you and send you some tape. For larger repairs due to wear-and-tear, I'll quote the repair before I start. For international orders, it may be more economical to consult your local gear repair.

The Slinger is the more everyday version of my ultralight camera bags. Bring your camera alongside your daily essentials like keys, wallet and phone. I carry mine even when I leave my camera at home!

Ultralight with extra features.

The Slinger has a front zip pocket, two side stretch pockets, and a hook-and-loop back pocket – plus bottom straps for a tripod or water bottle. The included magnetic-buckle strap and two carabiners let you wear it as a sling, waist belt, or clipped to your backpack.

Don't fear the rain.

Water has a hard time reaching your camera: the shell is waterproof and has fully taped seams, while the rolltop seals tightly against the rain with three rolls.

Quick access, every time.

Same rolltop quick-access design as my other bags: unroll once, let the magnet snap into place, then flip the lid to grab your camera or essentials.

Measure your actual camera and lens before ordering. Manufacturer dimensions often understate the real width (strap lugs are commonly excluded), and body + lens lengths don’t always add up to the true combined length.

Weighed without strap and carabiners. Each bag is made by hand, so weights vary by a few grams. The adjustable strap weighs 37 g; two small carabiners weigh 6 g.

Ultralight Materials

Shell
Your choice of Ultra 100X or Ultra 200X (my lightest and strongest fabrics, with super tear- and abrasion-resistant UHMWPE fibers) or X-Pac RX30 (adds color range at a weight increase).
Side stretch pockets
UltraStretch on both sides – pick a color for each.
Padding
4 mm Evazote EV50 closed-cell foam, glued directly to the external fabric. 8 mm available for more rigidity and protection on longer lenses or mountain use.
Liner
Hook-and-loop fabric – different from my camera bags’ Dyneema liner. Lets you stick hook-and-loop accessories anywhere on the inside.

Waterproofing

Waterproof shell with taped seams
The external fabric is waterproof, and every external seam is taped to keep water out. The rolltop closes with the same three-fold action as my camera bags, sealing the main compartment from above.
Not the same as my camera bags
The Slinger is built for everyday use, so it doesn’t carry the fully taped Dyneema liner of my camera bags. The main compartment stays dry in rain, but the front zip pocket and side stretch pockets are not waterproof.

The Slinger has more seams than my other camera bags and is thus harder to fully waterproof. While each seam is fully taped, more seams mean more potential for leakage.

Safety & Manufacturer

Carabiners are not climbing equipment
The included carabiners are accessories for clipping the bag to backpack hardware. They are not climbing equipment, fall-arrest hardware, or rated for any human load. Do not use them to secure people, suspend loads, or in any situation where carabiner failure could cause injury.
Small parts – choking hazard
The carabiners, the magnetic buckle on the Fidlock strap, and any other small accessories included with the bag are small enough to be swallowed. Keep them and the bag out of reach of children under 3 years. If a child swallows a part, seek medical help immediately.
Magnets and medical devices
The bag contains permanent magnets in the rolltop closure, and on the Fidlock strap in the buckle. If you wear a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump, or another active implantable medical device, keep the magnets at least 15 cm from the device and follow your device manufacturer's guidance.
Magnets and sensitive media
Magnets can damage or erase magnetic-stripe cards, mechanical watches, hearing aids, and unshielded hard drives. Keep them clear of the closure area.
Magnets and children
Keep away from infants and small children. If a magnet works loose and is swallowed – particularly together with another magnet or metal object – it can cause serious internal injury. Stop using the bag immediately if any magnet becomes detached and contact me for repair.
Not a toy or child carrier
This bag is designed for camera and gear transport. It is not a toy, child carrier, or pet carrier, and the straps are not certified for any human load.
Strap strangulation hazard
Long sling and waist straps can be a strangulation hazard. Do not place straps around the neck of infants or small children, and store the bag out of their reach when not in use.
Not a flotation device
The shell fabric and seams are waterproof, but the bag is not a personal flotation device. Do not rely on it for buoyancy in or on water.
Care for continued safe use
Spot-clean with a damp cloth and air-dry. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or dry-clean – these damage the taped seams and the waterproof film on the Dyneema Composite Fabric. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight; UV light degrades DCF over time. Store dry. Inspect seams, magnets, and carabiners before each use; if you find loose stitching, a detached magnet, or a bent gate on a carabiner, stop using the bag and contact me.

The maker

I personally build your bag.

I'm Jacob – a hiker, photographer, and maker who builds these bags for a living. I like to hike in rainy countries like Scotland or Norway, and I've refined my bags to hold up in their wet conditions over hundreds of kilometers on-trail, plus countless hours at the sewing machine.

I will draft an individual pattern for your bag to make sure it fits your camera perfectly. I will use the fabrics and colors you pick, as well as exactly those features you decide you need for your adventures.

Almost every Slinger I build is slightly different from the last one. That's the part I like most, so I'm very excited to see what you come up with!
