The Ranger is my ultralight take on a camera top-loader, crafted for hikers and photographers who carry mirrorless or DSLR cameras with a lens attached. Balancing minimal weight with functionality, the Ranger starts at just 57g for the smaller version—which is even lighter than popular camera clips!

Moreover, The Ranger doesn’t compromise on protection. It comes with 4mm padding, and with its roll-top and taped seams it’s designed to protect your gear even in the worst weather. Additionally, my special magnetic quick-flip system allows for super quick access to your camera: unroll the roll-top only once, then the lid is kept securely in place by magnets. Now you only need to flip up the lid to shoot—no zippers or buckles to slow you down.

This ultralight camera bag uses two metal carabiners to attach securely to your backpack—for example, between your shoulder straps or to your hip belt. You can upgrade to include extension straps if necessary and make use of the multiple attachment points to configure your carrying system to your liking.

Bringing a larger camera or longer lens? Choose the “Custom Bag” option to input your camera’s dimensions for a tailor-made fit. If you need additional features or adjustments, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to accommodate your needs.

FIND YOUR SIZE

The Ranger Camera Bag is designed to fit a DSLR or mirrorless camera with lens attached. Measure your gear to figure out the right size. If you use a tripod plate or L-bracket, install before measurement.

Leichtmut Ultralight Camera Bags for Hikers Leichtmut 20
Leichtmut Ultralight Camera Bags for Hikers Leichtmut 21

Leichtmut Camera Bags are designed to be as light as possible, allowing you to conserve energy and stay focused on capturing the perfect shot.

What this means:

  • Made with high-quality ultralight materials like Challenge Sailcloth’s Ecopak or the premium choice of Ultra 100 X, offering an exceptional balance of being extremely light, yet incredibly strong and durable.

  • Equipped with 4 mm padding, our tested sweet spot that provides just the right amount of protection without adding unnecessary weight.

  • Don’t waste any weight: We are happy to make you a custom-sized camera bag to perfectly fit your gear.

Leichtmut Camera Bags provide strong weather protection, keeping your gear safe from rain, snow and dust.

What this means:

  • The Rolltop Closure is designed for three rolls and thus forms a strong barrier against water entry.

  • The external fabric is fully waterproof. To prevent water from sneaking through stitch holes, all external seams are fully taped. To further minimize any risk, we designed the outer shell with as few seams as possible (consists of two pieces only!).

Note: While the rolltop provides excellent protection against rain, it’s not designed for submersion.

The rolltop is designed to be unrolled once you clip in the camera bag or get ready to shoot. Then, our magnetic quick-flip system offers both instant access and sufficient protection on the move.

How does it work?

  • Magnets clip both sides of the rolltop together. When you fold the rolltop down, another magnet holds it securely in place.

  • To access your camera, simply lift and open the folded-down lid in a single movement.

Good to know: The rolltop height is carefully designed not to get in the way, even when the bag sits in front of your chest.

You choose how you carry your Leichtmut Camera Bag, thanks to multiple attachment points and two included carabiners.

Recommended Carrying Options:

  • Clip between your shoulder straps for instant camera access.

  • Attach to the side of your hip-belt to take off your backpack without unclipping the bag.

  • Hang it off the side or front of your backpack when you don’t need immediate access.

Integrated Handle
Use the closed rolltop to carry the bag when it’s not clipped in (or an extension strap between two attachment points)

For the toughest tear and abrasion resistance at the lowest weight, pick Ultra 100X with its extra-strong UHMWPE fibers.

If weight and weather resistance and simplicity matters, this is the bag!! I love how sleek and minimal it is so I can pack it with the rest of my gear without worrying about extra bulk. I have the ranger for a few months now, and I dragged it through a lot, yet it still shows no wear and tear. Not having a zipper also means that this bag will last a long time!

The camera bag I always wanted to create myself. Extremely happy with it. The seams and tape look very good to me.
I got a custom sized one and it fits my “slightly larger” camera setup perfectly. Looking forward to carry it with me on many hikes to come.

Love the fully individual design options – and done in less than the promised two weeks : )
many companies can’t send out in-stock items in the time you build one ; )

    – designed for the exact measurements of my cam (one-size-fits-all never fits the huge differences in cameras)
    – mix of 8mm padding in front and 4mm on the sides (also needed for falls – padding is not very stiff)
    – colorful XPac (my favorite blue) but also lighter fabrics (Ultra) if you don’t mind UL grey/black
    – additional roll-clips on the side instead of top only
    – two rolls instead of three for lower access (magnet at the top instead of front) – if rolled tight can still get three rolls in (for day-long deluges)
    – magnet-closure a great option for fast access when it’s not raining but does not hold a 1kg Nikon when bending over (up-side-down – 90° is fine) – side clips come in handy for clipping closed unrolled (just folded over)
    – lots of attachment options (four loops each side) providing ample do-your-own-tinkering opportunities to fit to your backpack

The camera bag is very good and exactly meets my expectations. My Sony a7ii fits perfectly. I’ve already taken the bag with me on several adventures, and wearing it on my hip belt is very comfortable. It’s quite lightweight and also keeps out moisture. Highly recommended for people who want to transport their camera safely.
